Cocktails: The White Russian

Jeffery "The Dude" Lebowski's sipping drink of choice, the White Russian (also reffered to as a caucasian) has gained a huge cult following since the release of The Big Lebowski in 1998; a wise choice for all-day drinking.

Normally served in an old fashioned glass with ice cubes, you will need:

  • Two measures of Vodka
  • One measure of Kahlua (you can use other coffee liqueurs like Tia Maria, but I find Kahlua is the best tasting)
  • Fill the rest of the glass up with cream (or indeed milk) and you have a White Russian.

Despite it's delicious taste, White Russians are highly alcoholic. Remember this; the caucasian is a sipping beverage.

Shake your White Russian using a mixing tin and watch it transform it into a Dirty Bird. Replace the milk with Coca Cola and you have a Dirty Black Russian. If you are feeling particularly tropical, try replacing the Vodka with White Rum and you've got yourself a White Cuban.

Maravilloso!

The Festive Season.

Now that the festive season is drawing to a much welcomed end, the modern man must now go into hiding and recharge his batteries. Watch all the DVDs and recorded programs you have accumulated over the course of the holiday and enjoy some down time with a good book (I Am Legend by Richard Matheson comes highly recommended) before routine kicks back in and you are forced to shave your glorious holiday beard.

Too many mince pies and cocktails may leave you feeling a little bloated, so ensure to start a fitness regime as part of your new years resolution. A gentle jog around the block and 20 pushups a day will ease you back into the routine of regular exercise and help shift some of that unwanted holiday weight.

Be sure to check out the sales and splurge out on something you Santa didn't get you. The modern man deserves a treat for all his contributions over the festive period. Enjoy this delicious bloodlike cocktail as you unwind and reflect on the past few weeks. To make a Red Apple cocktail (also known as a Bare Cheeks) you will need:

  • 1 measure of vodka (or 2 if you are in the mood for it)
  • 2 measures of apple juice
  • 2 tablespoons of grenadine syrup
  • 1 tablespoon of lemons juice

Shake all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice, then strain into a cocktail glass, perhaps garnish with a slice of apple if you are feeling fancy or are trying to impress a guest. Sit back in a comfy chair and enjoy.
